Yesterday, Japanese media reported about one serious scam in Japan when one language school in Tokyo boasted about recruiting students in Vietnam at the expense of about 1 million yen. Compared to all other language schools in Japan, this is not low tuition fee so the expense itself did not create suspision.
This language started scanning students’ documents and prepared for visa applications since February this year. However, after receiving students’ money, approximately about $50,000, the school representatives disappeared and become disconnected with the partners in Vietnam. The language center in Vietnam reported to the Japanese Education Promotion Center in Japan, this one in return has reported to the police.
Surpringly, when the police came, this language school was completely empty, the school office is located on the second floor of a building. Surrounding people said that they had never seen any students in this area.
This kind of scamming is very popular in Japan where the government somehow lose control of the language schools. Because of potential of high profits, those language schools really function like companies, trying to recruit as many students as possible, ignoring the teaching quality and focusing on getting profits.
Rural students in Vietnam often lack knowledge and understanding about Japanese schools, those schools send representatives to rural high schools in Vietnam to persuade student to go to Japan. This can easily be seen in the fact that there are so many oversea language schools in Japan have representative offices in Vietnam, especially rural areas now.
There are many good language schools, but at the same time, there are full of bad language schools only care about profits, they recruit poor students, persuading them to go to Japan and leave them alone for them to struggle there.
Students themselves should really be careful about selecting education consulting companies in Vietnam and try to find information from many sources, especially people they know well and have experiences in Japan in order to avoid being cheated.
