As many as 34,721 businesses were established in Vietnam in the first four months of this year, increasing 22.9% from a year earlier, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO
The newly-formed firms had a combined registered capital of 248.2 trillion dong ($11.1 billion), up 52.8% from a year earlier.
They are expected to employ 427,200 laborers, sliding 0.2% from the same period of 2015.
The number of businesses resuming operations in the four-month period jumped 79.4% year-on-year to 11,331.
Meanwhile, as many as 25,135 companies in Vietnam suspended operations between January and April, representing an increase of 31.8% from a year earlier, the government-run office added.
In addition, 3,759 enterprises shut down, up 15.7% year-on-year, with most of them classified as small-sized for having registered capital of less than 10 billion dong ($446,000).
