Swedish music and video service provider Spotify is recruiting a music editor from Vietnam in a move to expand its reach to the Southeast Asian country.
The position will oversee Vietnamese music for the curation/programming team, and will work with content for Spotify through playlist curation, programming, and written editorial, the firm said in an announcement.
If entering Vietnam, Spotify will have to compete with several well-known home-grown paid music services such as Mp3 zing and Nhaccuatui.
At the same time, Spotify is seeking for an editor for Thai music, indicating that the startup is preparing to expand its coverage in Southeast Asia after marking its presence in Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines and Indonesia.
Spotify is offering users in Southeast Asian countries with monthly fees lower than those charged in developed countries such as the U.S. and the UK.
The firm’s count of paying users surpassed 50 million in March, increasing 10 million in six months. The service is currently available in over 60 markets, with a total catalog of more than 30 million songs.
