South Korean multinational Samsung has appointed Shim Won Hwan, 58, to general director of Samsung Vietnam, replacing Han Myoung Sup.
This is the second time Shim is appointed to this position, which he assumed previously between 2010 and 2014, VnEconomy cited information from Samsung Vietnam as saying.
Samsung Vietnam did not reply to BizLIVE’s request for information at the time of writing.
Shim has been working for Samsung Electronics since he graduated from Kyungpook University 33 years ago. He has been through many positions at Samsung Electronics, including CEO of Gumi factory in South Korea.
At Samsung Vietnam, Shim will cover departments of public relations, external relations, EHS (environment, health, safety), administration, and human resources.
Han Myoung Sup, who has led Samsung Vietnam for two and a half years, will return to the home country for a new post.
Last year, Samsung Vietnam’s export revenue reached $39.9 billion, accounting for nearly one fourth of Vietnam’s total exports. The company aims its exports to grow 25% year-on-year to $50 billion this year, one fifth of which will come from Samsung Display Vietnam, which produces displays for mobile devices.
It plans to recruit as many as 150,000 Vietnamese workers by the end of this year, from 137,000 at end-2016, to serve its expansion scheme.
