Japanese retailer FamilyMart will continue to expand its network in Vietnam, a representative from FamilyMart Vietnam was quoted by the Ho Chi Minh City Law newspaper as saying, refuting reports that it was planning to leave the Southeast Asian country.
The firm is launching loyalty cards to customers as a token of its long-term commitment to Vietnam, the representative added.
Reuters earlier this month cited FamilyMart UNY Holdings’ President Koji Takayanagi as saying that the firm was reviewing its loss-making businesses in Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia.
“If we can get them to rally we will, but we cannot continue to pour in resources,” said the chairman.
FamilyMart, Japan's second largest convenience store chain, is operating 130 outlets in Vietnam, mostly in Ho Chi Minh City.
