Sales of convenience stores in Vietnam’s four key cities increased 29% in the 12 weeks ending July 2016 from a year earlier, being the best performer among the segments, said Kantar Worldpanel, an global firm that studies shoppers’ behavior.
Sales of medium-sized street shops, which take the lion’s share, rose 13%, while hyper and supermarkets witnessed a 4% growth.
According to Kantar Worldpanel, the urban market recorded an increase of 4.3% in the period, accelerating from a 1.7% expansion a year earlier. The rural market growth, meanwhile, slowed to 4.6% from 8.5% in the same period last year.
Packaged Foods and Dairy lead the growth in the urban and rural markets, respectively. Home care continues to decline in rural areas.
