Foreign Investors Hold $26.4 Billion in Vietnamese Securities

Foreign investors have been beefing up holdings of Vietnamese securities.

Foreign players owned $26.4 billion worth of Vietnamese securities at the end of August, increasing 29.4% from end-2016, the National Financial Supervisory Commission has said in a report.
Their holdings accounted for 19.5% of the listed equity market and 5.3% of total outstanding bonds in the country, the commission noted.
Overseas investors have been buying in Vietnamese securities since the start of this year. In August only, they net purchased $115 million, including $107 million in shares and $8 million in bonds, extending their buying spree for the eight months in a row.
They net bought $1.315 billion worth of Vietnamese securities in the eight-month period, comprising of $646 million in shares and $669 million in bonds.
The commission said that the local share market entered negative territory in August due to absence of supportive information after listed companies had released financial statements for the first half of the year.
Nevertheless, the long-term outlook remains positive thanks to stable macroeconomic conditions and firm investor sentiment, it added.
