Japanese fashion company Uniqlo is planning to open a store in Vietnam amid an increased presence of other global peers, the Vietnam Economic Times reported.
The centuries-old fashion casual wear company recruited local employees since April for a number of positions. The recruitment has been completed and the staff is ready for the opening.
Uniqlo is likely to have chosen Ho Chi Minh City, the largest economic hub in Vietnam, for its first store in the Southeast Asian country. The specific location has yet to be revealed.
After recent arrivals of multinationals such as Spain’s Zara and Sweden’s H&M, which have picked Vincom Dong Khoi trade center in downtown Ho Chi Minh City for their debuts, Uniqlo will mark its foothold in a country of over 90 million people.
Without any authorized distributors, Uniqlo products are widely known in Vietnam as consumers normally acquire them at shops that buy from people who travel abroad.
Uniqlo was founded in 1949 and was acquired by Fast Retailing Co. in November 2005. It currently has over 2,000 worldwide.
